Love Lomo

I have been busy zining again! Here's my latest creation -Love Lomo! I made this artist book to accompany the exhibition of the same name that I curated at the Ranelagh Arts Centre. It features photographs taken on lomography camera by ten different artists. Each photo is partnered with a write up by each artist about how they discovered lomo photography and why they love it! The exhibition finishes up on Friday, the show truely has some amazing images and has gotten a great response. A lot of hard labour went into these beauties! I embossed and drew a lomo camera on the cover of each book and sowed the pages together by hand. There's a step by step guide of how I made Love Lomo Zine on my artist blog!

A new zine is hot off the press!

Wishes Zine

"The Wishing Tree" zine documents a selection of the thousands of wishings hung on the wishing tree at Electric Picnic Music and Arts Festival 2011. The Wishing Tree was part of a larger project called "Something About Mary" by Rosita Sweetman. Some of the wishes are inspiring, some heartbreaking and others are hilarious! Here's some images of the zine! It's available to buy on my etsy shop in the side bar and on this site.

Fairs

It's been a great couple of weeks for Baby BEEF recently with a visit to the first ever Berlin Zine Fest the last weekend in November and the first ever Dublin Art Book Fair in Temple Bar Gallery last weekend. I made a new zine called "Grimm" in German and English specially for the Berlin Zine Fest and dropped in a selection of my different publications to the Dublin Art Book Fair. I'll post up photos of the events soon!
I'm hoping to have the new issue of "Nostalgia" ready for my stall at the Dublin Flea Market this month. It's the Christmas market so I'm delighted to get a place at it! So pop down to the Food Co-op building in Newmarket Square on Sunday the 18th of December and come say hello! My stall will be full of arty goodness, handmade posters, calenders and notebooks. My mam has made some beautiful aprons for the market and my friend Sinead has lots of crafts, including DIY crochet kits! So we're really looking forward to it, hope to see you there!

zine fair

The first Dublin Zine Fair was a huge success! We had over twenty stalls full of independently produced zines, artist books, comics and artwork! Gyspy Rebel Rabble started off the day with some great music to get us all in the mood, with Tim on his double bass in the window!

Ranelagh Arts Centre was packed all day long! At the end of the day we had a screening of "$100 and a t-shirt", a documentary about zines and zine makers in Portland, Oregon, which was quite funny and an enjoyable end to the day! I was delighted by the reaction and positive vibes the fair received.

Sinead Gleeson who wrote the article in the Irish Times even came along. To put the icing on the cake I sold probably the most zines I have ever sold in one day! I launched my latest art zine "Nostalgia" on the day and people seemed to really love it. Here's some photos from the great day!

24th August 2011

Just days to go to the first annual Dublin Zine Fair that I'm putting on in the Ranelagh Arts Centre! My new zine is printed, bound and ready for its debut! The catalogue of exhibitors is printed, ready and waiting for the day! The Irish Times wrote an article about the fair and it was put into Le Cool magazines listings too, so I'm hoping for a great turn out! I'm hoping this will be the start of a brilliant annual fair, that will grow every year and inspire people to make zines and get involved in the zine scene! See you there on Saturday!!

17th July 2011

Last Saturday I took part in a bookmaking workshop at the National Print Museum. Our tutor brought a collection of artist books to inspire us and we all had good fun seeing what each other came up with. I made three unique artist books of rubbings from the old printing presses in the museum, some of them were from old Sunday Times newspaper metal sheets. I created collages of the different texts, letters and images I found on the presses, and bound then in brown card with an acordian bind. I titled them "Death of the Letterpress".
